High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

Spring Ridge Public School takes great pride in recognising and supporting the diverse strengths and needs of high potential and gifted students. We are dedicated to creating learning environments that are inclusive, supportive, and stimulating for all learners, ensuring they remain engaged and motivated. Our HPGE programs are designed to identify and nurture giftedness across four key domains. We strive to promote excellence not only academically, but also creatively, physically, and socially, preparing students for lifelong success and wellbeing.

Our approach emphasises four main domains:

Creative Domain: We offer opportunities for students to cultivate innovative thinking and artistic expression, fostering originality and problem-solving through a variety of creative activities.

Intellectual Domain: We provide enriched learning experiences that challenge students with higher-order thinking, deep inquiry, and advanced knowledge across the curriculum.

Physical Domain: Understanding the importance of physical growth, we support students in developing coordination, health, and physical abilities through targeted activities and sports.

Social-Emotional Domain: We place a strong focus on the emotional wellbeing and social growth of gifted students, encouraging resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships to help them flourish within our school community.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Spring Ridge Public School, high potential and gifted education (HPGE) is an integral part of daily teaching. With many students’ demonstrating exceptional potential, we are committed to nurturing and developing their abilities into meaningful strengths.

Teachers carefully assess each student’s learning needs and apply evidence-based teaching strategies to challenge and extend their learning. We offer tailored learning pathways, including enrichment and extension programs, to support this growth.

Our classrooms foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, promoting a strong sense of belonging. Students are encouraged to take risks, be creative, and collaborate with others.

Groupings are flexible and inclusive, allowing students to take on leadership roles. Feedback is focused on strengths, with clear goals and opportunities for self-assessment.

Additionally, our teachers participate in ongoing professional development to effectively meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with high potential and gifted abilities.
